AAEC's Dr Viki Anderson was recently interviewed by Channel 7's Today Tonight team about a new laser acquisition. This went to air in late June. We have a new laser device called the Ultra Q Reflex developed by a leading medical laser company that happens to be based in Adelaide. http://www.ellex.com/products/treatment/photodisruption-parent/ultra-q-reflex/overview/
Its can be used for a number of laser procedures but importantly can also target visually disturbing floaters (objects in the jelly that fills the interior of the eye that cast visible shadows as the eye moves). If a person is greatly troubled by such objects they can now be lasered away in many cases.
People should also be aware if they suddenly develop a great many new floaters that this should be checked by their doctor or optometrist. In fact, if the floaters are accompanied by flashing of light this can mean disease in their retina that may need urgent attention.
